Part 1: If Walls Could Talk: The History of the Home – The Kitchen

One quick Google search of the word kitchen yielded this smart, funny and well-paced BBC series about the history of our homes, as told through four key spaces: the kitchen, bathroom, bedroom and living room.

Historian and presenter Dr. Lucy Worsley is Chief Curator at Historic Royal Palaces. She pretty much gets to time travel, kit out in fancy dress, and play with her equally-fascinating friends and colleagues, all in the name of work.  As Worsley says on her website: “Yes, this is a brilliant job, but no, you can’t have it.  (Bribes have been offered, and refused.)”

Hard to pick my favourite bits.  Maybe the over-sized hamster wheel used by a certain breed of dog to turn the spit on the hearth, and the profitable business of Victorian recycling…
