This Belongs in Your House

Dear Claire:

The days are shortening, the nights are cool and I am, slowly, packing away my summer things for another year.

When I see this dress hanging in my closet – the one you admired  – I can’t bear to banish it to the basement.  It reminds me too much of you, Ellen and Catherine, and those perfect days in Noyers.  So I am sending it to you.

Last spring I fell in love with the dress at a secondhand shop in Vancouver. But I never did find the perfect pair of shoes to match, so I take that as a sign that it is meant, again, to move on.

I hope you will wear it.  But if not, I hope you might find a wire dressmaker’s model – maybe a good vide grenier find – to display it as you see fit.  Having toured the interiors of your house, I can imagine it being right at home in your lovely sea of colour.

All the best to everyone,

Andrea xo

  1. Chère Andrea, Oh,I love this photo so much!… I’m glad you sent it,I hope I can print it so I would frame it on our bedroom wall. It would remind me of this magic moment we had that afternoon by the river, and how you surprised us and made us laugh! Simple happiness…And how we envied you (though we had our swimming costume on)and we wished to jump in the river with you, all in a beautiful dress!…
Thank you too for the very flatering photos and article you wrote about our house. It made it all very special, and made us feel very lucky.
Is that true that you’re sending me your dress? Are you sure about it? Of course I would be delighted!
    Bisous, Claire

    • It is, indeed, on its way to you, along with a copy of this photo! It should arrive in about a week and yes, I’m absolutely sure.

I’m also looking for a few other addresses, but I’ll email you separately.

      So glad you’re happy… xo
